Man Pulled Over for Traffic Violation Allegedly Caught with Stolen Personal Information

On Monday, November 20, 2023, at approximately 8:20 p.m., BCSO Deputy Angel was on patrol in the area of Monte Vista Avenue in Oroville. Deputy Angel conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle being driven by Joshua Scarbrough, age 39 of Magalia, after Scarbrough failed to stop at a stop sign.

BCSO dispatch confirmed Scarbrough had two warrants for his arrest. Deputy Angel then conducted a search of the vehicle Scarbrough was driving, and located methamphetamine, a scale, and personal information, to include bank statements, debit cards, social security cards, birth certificates and blank checks belonging to at least 22 different people.

Scarbrough was arrested on several charges to include felony possession of personal identifying information of ten or more people, possession of stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance. He was booked into the Butte County Jail.

Deputy Angel continues to work on getting the personal documents returned to its owners.
