A Shasta County woman has been arrested for allegedly attacking two of her relatives, one of whom was fatally shot.
According to a press release by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at the El Rio Estates on Riverside Drive in Anderson, just after 9 PM on Friday, October 27, to investigate a report of a gunshot victim. Upon arrival, they discovered a deceased adult female inside a residence, with injuries consistent with homicide.
Another adult female was found with injuries consistent with assault, and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. She has since been released, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Detectives responded to the scene to conduct interviews with witnesses, but no additional information has been released. Any potential motive also remains unclear. The identity of the deceased victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Detectives soon identified 30-year-old Crystal Ann Odom of Anderson as the primary suspect. Odom is reportedly related to both victims, and had previously lived at the residence. Detectives soon thereafter obtained an arrest warrant for Odom for alleged murder and assault with a firearm.
On Saturday, October 28, deputies located and arrested Odom at the Quality Inn on Hilltop Drive in Redding. She was then taken to the Major Crimes Unit for questioning, during which she reportedly admitted to both the murder and the assault. She was then booked at the Shasta County jail, with bail set at $1 million.
Odom’s arraignment took place on Wednesday, November 1, at 1:30 pm in the Shasta County Superior Court.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 530-245-6135 or via email at email@example.com.
