“PD Updates 10-17-2023

On October 17, 2023, at approximately 12:43 p.m. the Beaumont Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a fire in the 1100 block of Beaumont Avenue. Officers and CalFire arrived and found the backyard and outbuilding fully engulfed in flames. A nearby daycare and several residences were temporarily evacuated until the fire was contained. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire may have been due to embers from an open fire pit.

On October 16, 2023, at approximately 8:24 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1300 block of East 7th Street for a structure fire. The fire had been extinguished by the homeowner prior to officers arrival. However, CalFire responded and remained on scene to ensure the fire had been fully extinguished. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was determined to be electrical.

On October 16, 2023, at approximately 8:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of a physical altercation at Beaumont High School. Officers arrived and determined approximately eight students were involved in the altercation. Prior to officer’s arrival the students were separated. Two of the students had run off campus shortly after the altercation had occurred. Minor injuries were reported, officers are still investigating the altercation.

On October 14, 2023, at approximately 9:17 p.m., officers received information regarding a stolen vehicle located in the area of Tulip Circle. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a felony traffic stop, however the driver fled and initiated officers in a short pursuit. The driver ultimately fled from the vehicle, which continued moving and came to rest in front of a residence in the 1300 block of Amaryllis. Officers pursued the subject on foot until he was apprehended in the area of Cherry Avenue and Antonell. The suspect was identified as a 14 year old juvenile from the City of Beaumont. The vehicle had been reported stolen out of San Bernardino. No injuries were reported and only minor damage was sustained at the residence where the vehicle was recovered.

On October 14, 2023, at approximately 5:34 p.m., the Beaumont Police Department received a call reporting an armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver in the 1300 block of Mandrake Way. The victim reported that a subject had approached him, displayed a knife and made off with the pizza the driver was delivering. Officers responded to the area and began to search for the suspect, who was described as a black male adult, approximately 6’0” tall, with curly black hair, wearing a blue shirt and grey jeans. Officers quickly located a subject matching the description. The subject attempted to flee from officers, but they were able to apprehend him without incident. Officers located evidence in the area related to the crime and the victim was able to positively identify the suspect, a 39 year old transient. Officers believe the same subject may be involved in other similar incidents both in the City of Beaumont and Banning. The suspect was booked into Smith Correctional Facility on numerous felony violations. This case is still under investigation.

On October 13, 2023, officers conducted a DUI saturation detail, focusing on high traffic areas during the evening hours. Thirteen citations were issued for various vehicle code violations, no arrests for DUI were made. This DUI Saturation detail was made possible by funds provided to the Beaumont Police Department through the Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Transportation Administration.
