Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Reportedly Prompts Lockdown of Elementary School

Ione Police Officers have taken the suspect into custody on the pursuit.
Today [September 19th], the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department and Manteca Police Department were pursuing a stolen vehicle from Manteca. The lengthy pursuit came into Amador County on Highway 88. The vehicle was described as a white Chevy Astro Van. The pursuit turned from Highway 88 onto Highway 124 towards the City of Ione. The pursuit came through Church and Main Streets. The vehicle traveled east on Main St., ending up traveling into a field and being disabled. The Ione Police Department, Amador County Sheriff’s Department, and Amador CHP responded to assist.
The Ione Police Department ordered the lockdown of Ione Elementary School because of the proximity of the police event. The suspect fled the vehicle on foot after the vehicle was disabled. The suspect was seen heading east away from the City of Ione. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department and Manteca Police Department started a search for the suspect where the vehicle was disabled. The Stockton Police Department’s Air Support Unit assisted with the search from the air.
After an hour-and-a-half search, the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department and Manteca Police Department called the search for the suspect off. During the search, there was thermal imaging from The Stockton Police Department’s Air Support Unit showing the suspect fleeing east away from the city. There is no danger to the City of Ione or our residents now. The suspect is believed to be fleeing from the area.
