South Modesto Homicide Suspect Identified as Victim’s Adult Son

A South Modesto man has reportedly been arrested for the alleged murder of his own mother.

According to a press release by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded during the overnight hours on Saturday, September 30, to a report of a domestic disturbance on the 800 block of Inyo Avenue in South Modesto. At the scene, deputies discovered an adult female with life-threatening injuries. The specifics of her injuries were not disclosed.

Paramedics attempted life-saving measures and transported the victim to an area hospital. The victim succumbed to her injuries soon thereafter and was pronounced deceased.

Major Crimes detectives took over the investigation, and soon identified 38-year-old Zachary Morris, the victim’s adult son, as the primary suspect. Morris was detained near the initial crime scene and ultimately arrested on suspicion of homicide.

An exact cause and manner of death have yet to be determined, the Sheriff’s Department said. The victim’s name has also not been made public as of yet.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
