“No call is too small for CPD officers. On August 15, an iPhone was reported stolen from a vehicle near Budd Ave. The victim located the phone using Find My iPhone and retrieve it from a suspect in a tent near the Los Gatos Creek Trail. The incident was reported, and our officers responded to initiate an investigation of the suspect involved.

Upon their arrival, officers encountered Francisco Gudino, a 45-year-old transient. Unfortunately, the situation quickly escalated as Gudino became confrontational and was found in possession of a knife. Despite these challenges, officers attempted to apprehend the suspect. During this struggle, Gudino resisted arrest, even attempting to wield a large branch as a weapon against the officers. He eventually managed to escape onto Highway 17.

Gudino’s history includes multiple interactions with CPD, including a previous arrest for arson and a $50,000 warrant for his arrest. Upon conducting a search of Gudino’s tent, officers discovered stolen checks and methamphetamine.

A few nights later, on August 19, a new shift of officers returned to Gudino’s tent. Gudino was again confrontational and refused to comply with officers. Through a combination of skill, professionalism, and de-escalation, they successfully apprehended Gudino without any further incident. As of now, Gudino remains in custody in Santa Clara County. This incident underscores the unwavering dedication of our officers to ensure the safety of our Campbell community.”
