“This morning around 9:30 a.m., several of our officers and CBAT Team (Community Behavioral Assessment Team) responded to reports of a homeless man at the downtown Main Street mall who was experiencing mental health issues while holding a large kitchen knife. The patrol officers tried reasoning with the man but he kept refusing to move away from the knife that was next to him. After talking with the man became ineffective, they formulated a plan then safely contacted and detained him without anyone getting injured.

The homeless man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest out of San Bernardino County, so officers arrested and booked him into jail at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s West Valley Detention Center. Our CBAT Team completed a pre-release mental health evaluation application so this man will be thoroughly evaluated before he is released to determine if he needs further mental health treatment or resources.”
