“In the early morning hours of Sunday 08-13-23, officers responded to the self storage on Antelope Rd. To investigate a report of a burglary in progress.

Officers arrived on scene and established a perimeter while they waited for additional resources to arrive. While they were waiting, one of the three suspects came out the door and was immediately confronted by police. That suspect choose to run and attempt to evade arrest. He climbed onto the roof of the business and laid down. A drone was deployed to attempt to see if the suspect was still on the roof, he was. Riverside County Sheriff’s Office sent over Riverside County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit helicopter Star9 to assist. They came overhead and confirmed the suspect was on the roof.

Star9 gave multiple announcements to the suspect in an attempt to get him to surrender peacefully, which he did not.

K9 Raico was on-duty, on-scene and ready to assist. Officers Figueroa retrieved Raico from the car and began K9 announcements. After the announcements K9 Raico let out a few well timed barks, causing the suspect to decide to surrender to officers. All 3 suspects were eventually taken into custody without force, bringing the incident to a peaceful resolution.

Every incident is a collaborative effort for our department. From call taker to dispatcher, citizens to alarm companies, beat cop to drone operator, K9’s to allied agencies and everybody in between. Every piece equally important to completing the puzzle. Your Murrieta Police Department working hard for you.”
