Suspect in Custody for a Double Shooting is Ineligible for Release on Bond

OAKLAND — A man with prior criminal convictions is in custody ineligible for release on bond for a double shooting. One of the victims died. Now James Goodman, 36, of Antioch is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on June 6.

The shooting occurred on October 7 on the 1600 block of 45th Avenue in Oakland. Officers responded to reported gunfire shortly before 10 p.m. Two men who suffered gunshot wounds were taken to a hospital.

One of the victims, 33-year-old William Graham, died at the hospital. The second victim, a 26- year-old man survived being shot by a semiautomatic firearm.

Oakland investigators worked with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate and arrest Goodman on May 8. He was found at a bank parking lot on MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland. He fled on foot when an OPD officer attempted to contact him, but he was apprehended quickly.

The suspect is behind bars at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail. Goodman was booked on suspicion of battery, false imprisonment by violence, vehicle theft, and stalking. He was also booked for making threats of violence and preventing or dissuading a witness/victim from testifying. Plus, he was booked for damaging/destroying a communications device to prevent summoning of assistance or law enforcement.

On May 10, multiple charges were filed. Goodman’s charges include murder, various weapons- related charges, and special allegations. Goodman was only recently released from jail on parole for a burglary conviction. He has additional prior convictions for commercial burglary, grand theft, and street terrorism.
