In a routine traffic stop on Thursday, April 27, an officer apprehended a suspect after said suspect allegedly attempted to evade authorities.

According to a press release by the Fairfield Police Department, the incident took place near Travis Boulevard when the officer noticed a vehicle lacking a front license plate and an obscured rear plate. As the officer initiated the traffic stop, the passenger seated on the driver’s side suddenly flung open the rear door and fled on foot.

Local officers and deputies from the Solano County Sheriff’s Office ultimately apprehended the suspect in a nearby neighborhood. The suspect was taken into custody without any further incident.

During a subsequent search of the area, law enforcement reportedly discovered a loaded AR-style pistol in close proximity to where the suspect had been seated in the vehicle. The firearm reportedly lacked a serial number. The weapon was found to have a loaded magazine containing eleven rounds, with an additional round already chambered, police said.

Authorities identified the suspect as a 23-year-old resident of San Francisco, who was also found to have a felony warrant for his arrest from San Francisco County. The suspect was also found to be on probation at the time of his arrest, adding a probation violation charge to his list of offenses. The suspect’s name has not been released.

Following the arrest, the suspect was booked on charges related to possession of the weapon, the outstanding warrant, and the probation violation. Law enforcement officials are working diligently to determine the origin of the firearm and whether it has any connections to previous criminal activities.

Police have commended the collaborative efforts of the responding officers and deputies, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring public safety.

The suspect is currently in custody awaiting further legal proceedings, and law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
