UNION CITY — Brandon A. King, a 48-year-old resident of Union City, allegedly murdered a man whose body was found near railroad tracks. King is in custody ineligible for release on bond, pending his court arraignment on April 6.

The victim was killed on March 13. Police responded shortly before 11 a.m. to a report of a body on the 33000 block of Central Avenue. Officers found a severely injured man unconscious, who was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Detectives investigating what happened identified Kong as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for him. On March 26, Kong was seen near Whipple Road and Fourth Street. When officers attempted to contact Kong, he fled running through yards in the residential neighborhood.

A perimeter was set up. Officers ultimately apprehended Kong at 340 Whipple Road. He was arrested March 27 at 1:12 a.m. and booked into Santa Rita Jail. He now faces a murder charge PC 187(A).

King is no stranger to the legal system. In fact, he was on probation at the time of his latest arrest. In April 2022, he was convicted for battery, making criminal threats, and damaging the phone of a witness. In December 2013, he was convicted for a DUI. In June 2004, he was convicted for damaging or taking part of a vehicle.

His current homicide investigation remains open. Anyone with information can call Union City police detective Humberto Rodriguez at 510-675-5282.
