Glenn County: Two Arrested in Connection to Residential Burglary in Willows

Glenn County authorities have arrested two individuals in connection to a residential burglary on County Road J in Willows.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Glenn County deputies responded to a report of burglary on the 1100 block of County Road J in Willows on Friday, February 10, 2023. Upon arrival, deputies discovered signs of forced entry into the residence and that the place appeared to have been ransacked.

Due to the extent of the potential property taken, detectives from the Glenn Investigation and Narcotics Task Force were called in to assist in the investigation.

Investigators discovered that a vehicle had been stolen, along with a large amount of property from the residence. The stolen vehicle was later located at the Economy Inn in Willows, and deputies and detectives immediately responded to the scene.

Upon arriving at the Economy Inn, deputies and detectives contacted two individuals identified as Jody Mattis and Tara Bessmer, who were allegedly in possession of the stolen vehicle. A 9-year-old child was also with them, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities discovered that Mattis was on parole, and Bessmer was on probation. A search of their room reportedly revealed hundreds of articles of suspected stolen personal property, as well as items associated with the County Road J burglary investigation.

Mattis and Bessmer were arrested and booked into the Glenn County jail on multiple charges, including burglary, possession of stolen property, motor vehicle theft, and parole and probation violations.

The child was released to the custody of Glenn County Child Welfare Services.

Deputies and detectives have also made contact with the victim from the original burglary and continue to document property while locating additional owners from the other seized items.

“Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact deputies at the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office,” the press release stated. “Deputies can be contacted, in person at 543 W. Oak St Willows, CA, by phone at (530) 934-6431 or calling 911 in cases of an emergency.”
