A Shasta County woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly entering a home and stabbing a man while he lay sleeping.

According to a press release on February 10 by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on the afternoon of Thursday, February 9, to the 1500 block of Akrich Street in the city of Shasta Lake for a report of a stabbing.

Deputies learned from the victim’s wife that an unknown woman had entered the residence and stabbed the victim, an adult male, while he was sleeping and then fled on foot.

The victim was still lying in bed when deputies arrived, having suffered a stab wound to his arm and back. Paramedics also responded to the scene and rendered aid to the victim, before ultimately transporting him to an area hospital, the Sheriff’s Office said. The victim’s current condition is unknown.

Shortly after obtaining a description of the suspect, a neighbor reportedly told deputies they’d seen a woman sitting in a black car outside the victim’s home before deputies arrived.

Deputies also learned the victim’s son had been involved in a service call in Redding earlier this year also involving a woman — identified as 55-year-old Stacy Jacobsen — who was the registered owner of a vehicle matching the description of the one the neighbor had seen.

The California Highway Patrol’s Northern Division Air Operations also responded to provide assistance and search the area for the suspect.

Around the same time, Sheriff’s dispatch began receiving reports of a woman driving erratically in Redding. The vehicle was identified as the one registered to Jacobsen, whom deputies discovered had an active felony warrant out for her arrest.

Redding PD officers caught up with Jacobsen in the area of Turn Creek Road and attempted a traffic stop, but Jacobsen led them on a pursuit. Despite efforts by Sheriff’s deputies to safely end the pursuit, Jacobsen reportedly made it all the way to her home and parked her car in the garage.

At that point, she surrendered to Redding police officers without further incident. Shasta County deputies responded to the scene to take her into custody, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Jacobsen was arrested and booked into custody at the Shasta County jail on suspicion of attempted murder, with her bail set at $500,000. The Sheriff’s Office reports that further charges are pending.

Jacobsen reportedly has a prior felony DUI conviction, as well as an arrest in 2018 for alleged petty theft and vehicle theft.

The investigation and arrest was a joint effort by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and Redding Police Department. Particularly in rural areas, law enforcement agencies rely on collaboration and sharing of resources to better assist the community.
