“During the month of December, several catalytic converters were stolen from an automotive dealership in Lakeport. The damage and repair costs were estimated at $30,000.00.

During the Sheriff’s Office investigation, surveillance video was obtained from the area, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit was able to identify a potential suspect.

On January 10, 2023, the Major Crimes Unit served a search warrant in the 1200 block of Martin St in Lakeport and placed Eddie Mario Joseph Duran, 37 of Lakeport, under arrest for Grand Theft, Vandalism, and vehicle tampering related to the theft of the catalytic converters.

You can take preventative steps to make yourself safer from potential catalytic converter thieves by:

– Installing an anti-theft device

– Etching unique numbers into the catalytic converter to make it easily identifiable if stolen, therefore becoming less desirable to steal

– Parking in well-lit areas

– Parking in a locked garage when possible
