CLEARLAKE OAKS — The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of an arson suspect early last week.

Just after 5:30 on the afternoon of Monday, September 23, Northshore fire units responded to a grass fire in the area of Highway 20 and Lake Street.

The fire, which had also caused damage to a wooden fence next to the Eskaton Clearlake Oaks Manor Senior Apartments, was quickly determined by CAL FIRE investigators to be a case of arson.

Authorities soon also identified the primary suspect as 35-year-old Matthew Samuel Miraville, who was already an arson registrant and had reportedly been seen in the area prior to the fire starting.

Detectives worked alongside CAL FIRE investigators and arrested Miraville on Thursday, September 26.

He has since been booked on charges of aggravated arson with a prior, arson, unlawfully causing a fire, and probation violation.
