Insurance Agent Charged for Allegedly Stealing $25,000 From Clients

SANTA BARBARA — Insurance agent and former licensed bail agent Sean Wilczak (29) appeared in court Friday, December 30, 2022, on three felony counts of grand theft.

Investigators say he allegedly stole $25,000 from three of his bail clients.

The California Department of Insurance opened an investigation on Wilczak after numerous complaints from his clients. They stated that Wilczak took money from them and failed to post a bail bond.

He allegedly advertised himself as the owner of an unregistered business entity — Wolf Bail Bonds. A business of this nature is required by law to register with the Department of Insurance or with the California Secretary of State.

Under these fraudulent business credentials, Wilczak allegedly met with the families of two separate criminal defendants who were wanting bail. During the meeting, Wilczak collected $25,000 in cash for bail deposits in all, investigators say.

He then failed to post the defendants bonds and, to this date, has not filed bond applications for either of the criminal defendants, along with not refunding any cash payments he has received.

Wilczak’s license was revoked on August 22, 2022, by the Department of Insurance.

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s office is prosecuting this case.
