On December 5, 2022 a call was made to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office. The caller stated that a man had threatened them with a loaded rifle.

Deputies were dispatched, and as they arrived on the scene they noticed a male subject re-enter the house. Deputies went around to the back of the residence where they attempted to detain the subject. The subject refused to obey commands and resisted arrest. A struggle ensued to get the suspect detained.

A non-lethal taser was deployed on the suspect. This did not subdue the suspect as he continued to resist. The suspect committed felony assault on a peace officer when he struck one of the Officer’s in the head with a blunt object. It was at this point that another Deputy fired his weapon at the suspect hitting him.

The Deputies then began to administer CPR until the Imperial County Fire Department arrived and took over care of the suspect. A short time  later the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two Deputies were injured in the struggle, and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The injuries were determined to be non-life threatening and both Deputies are expected to recover. No other parties were injured in the incident.

The suspect’s name has not been released at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation. If anyone has any information regarding this case please contact the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit at (442)265-2105.
