Border Patrol thwarts human smuggling attempt in Calexico

U.S. Customs & Border Patrol officers have announced the interception of a bizarre human smuggling attempt at the Calexico West port of entry late last month.

Around 8:30 AM on November 25, a 28-year-old man and his 21-year-old passenger pulled up to the port in a 2001 Ford Taurus and were referred for further examination.

When officers searched the vehicle, they discovered a 17-year-old Mexican citizen hiding inside a dashboard compartment.

A records check revealed that the teen had previously been apprehended in March of this year for attempted to illegally enter the U.S. at the Otay Mesa port of entry, using documentation that was not his.

The driver and passenger, both of whom are U.S. citizens, were arrested and booked at the Imperial County Jail.
