“Early this morning just after 1 a.m., one of our Field Training Officers and his new partner in training tried stopping a car in the area of Tyler Street and Gaylord Street. Turns out this newer Chevy Camaro was just stolen in our city and hadn’t even been reported yet. The suspect failed to stop for the officers and led them on a pursuit, during which he couldn’t negotiate a turn and “parked” the stolen ride in the rear of a local business. And by “parked” we mean he launched it into the building.

37-year-old Pete Elliot Vega was arrested and booked into jail for auto theft, felony evading police, suspicion of DUI, and driving without a license. Fortunately, he was not injured from his flying car experiment. Unfortunately, he’s a documented gang member on Post Release Community Supervision out of Los Angeles County and they would not issue a PRCS violation hold for him at this time, so we couldn’t add that additional charge. He is still in custody though on $100,000 bail.”
