“On September 13th, 2022 at 8:30 PM, Redding Police Officers responded to a reported robbery at the Smart Market located at 4560 Westside Rd.

Officers determined a male subject later identified as Gregory Hines, 35 years of Redding, entered the store and charged at an employee with a knife or similar object. He also threw a bar stool at the employee while telling the employee he needed supplies. The employee was eventually able to escape without being harmed. Hines ultimately stole several items from inside the store then fled on foot to his residence.

Officers tracked Hines to his residence and contacted him but he was non compliant. Hines retreated into his residence and refused to come out for approximately two hours. Officers utilized multiple less than lethal options, including a K-9, drone and two officers from our Crisis Intervention Response Team (CIRT) to assist with a peaceful resolution. Ultimately, Hines surrendered and was taken into custody peacefully. He was later booked into the Shasta County Jail for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and resisting or delaying arrest.”
