OAKLAND — Two men are in custody for allegedly robbing a Rolex watch from an off-duty Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Both suspects are due to appear in court for a plea hearing on September 2.

Raymond Barbosa, 21 of Oakland, and Daryl Caldwell, 23 of Antioch, were booked into Santa Rita Jail on August 19. Barbosa remains in custody in lieu of $290,000 bond. The bond for Caldwell is $235,000.

The robbery occurred August 19 in the parking lot at Hacienda Crossings Shopping Center, located in Dublin. An armed man who robbed the deputy jumped into a waiting car and the driver sped away.

Responding deputies quickly located the getaway car. They followed it to Oakland, where it exited from Interstate 580 at 98 th Avenue and crashed. The suspects immediately abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Oakland police joined deputies in pursuit of the pair. Both suspects were arrested shortly before 2 p.m. Barbosa was arrested outside 9889 Stearns Avenue, and the firearm he allegedly used was recovered. Caldwell was arrested outside 8857 Stanley Avenue.

In addition to second-degree armed robbery, Barbosa faces 10 weapons-related charges. Caldwell, a previously convicted felon, faces four-weapons related charges, in addition to second-degree robbery.

Incidentally, Barbosa has been arrested six other times since 2019 for assault, possession of a controlled substance, robbery, and other offenses. Caldwell has nine prior arrests since 2018 for burglary, robbery, vehicle theft, and other offenses.
