A Fresno man was arrested on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm after an accidental fatal shooting.

On the morning of Sunday, August 21, police responded to a hotel on the 300 block of East Fir Avenue to investigate a report of a gunshot victim. Arriving officers found that 20-year-old Deisha Guzman had suffered a gunshot wound to her lower body. She was pronounced dead at hospital later that morning, police said.

Gun recovered at scene

22-year-old Christopher Jordan, who was present at the scene and identified himself as Guzman’s boyfriend, reportedly first told officers that Guzman had accidentally shot herself with his Glock handgun that he’d set down on the bed. Police say Jordan later admitted, however, that he’d accidentally fired the gun, believing it to be unloaded, and struck Guzman.

Jordan was ultimately arrested and booked on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and negligent discharge of a firearm, police said.
