Driver Faces Vehicular Manslaughter Charge for Death of a Pedestrian

DUBLIN — A driver faces charges including vehicular manslaughter for the death of a pedestrian he allegedly struck. Giovanni Fissore, 42 of Livermore, was arrested the same day as a fatal accident on July 31.

This tragedy occurred at approximately 10 p.m., on the 6200 block of Dougherty Road. The victim was hit by a Chevrolet SUV while walking southbound near Houston Place.

Responding officers located the victim 39-year-old Dublin resident Roni Gage, suffering major injuries. Dougherty Road has three lanes in both directions, and according to investigators she was walking in one of the lanes.

Paramedics performed life-saving measures in an unsuccessful attempt to save the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fissore the driver had a child with him inside his vehicle at the time of the accident. He remained at the scene. He was suspected of being intoxicated and taken into custody.

Besides a charge for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence PC 192(C)(1), Fissore also faces two additional charges.

His other charges are child endangerment PC 273(A) and DUI alcohol/drugs with bodily injury PC 23153(A).

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration California has the second highest number of alcohol-related fatalities. It ranks behind Texas and ahead of Florida in DUI fatalities.
