San Mateo police have reportedly arrested a couple after spotting a stolen vehicle in a shopping center parking lot.

On the afternoon of Thursday, April 28, an officer came across a reportedly stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Bridgepointe Shopping Center.

Officers detained the driver, Julie Kennelly, without incident while her alleged accomplice, identified as Jesus Acosta-Pasos, was shopping in one of the stores, police said.

When Acosta-Pasos returned and saw the officers waiting, he tried to flee on foot, ran into a dead end in an underground parking garage, surrendered, then tried to flee a second time and ultimately surrendered again, police said.

Both individuals were ultimately taken into custody on stolen property and drug charges.
