Adelanto man arrested for attempted murder with firearm after shooting at Motel 6

Victorville police arrested a man for attempted murder  after an argument between two men at a Motel 6 led to a shooting.

The suspect, 56-year-old Jerry Randolph of Adelanto, was arrested for attempted murder with a firearm and booked at High Desert Detention Center on $1,750,000 bail.

The incident began around midnight on Saturday, March 19th, when a 35-year-old man from Lucerne Valley went to the Motel 6 located at 16868 Stoddard Wells Road.  The man and Randolph got into an argument in the parking lot, and Randolph threatened to shoot him.

“The victim drove to a parking lot next to the motel and exited his vehicle,” according to Sheriff’s Deputy C. Grigsby. “Randolph retrieved a handgun from his vehicle, approached the victim, and fired the gun. The victim was shot once in the ankle.”

Police were called in to St. Mary’s Hospital, where the man was receiving treatment.  They began an investigation on the incident and issued an arrest warrant for Randolph.  He was found near his residence late that evening and arrested without incident.

Randolph was released on bail on March 23rd.  No further information was disclosed regarding the details of the argument or whether the two men had a prior relationship.
