Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office makes three arrests for alleged domestic violence

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office has announced three recent arrests in connection to alleged incidents of domestic violence.

On the afternoon of March 9, deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of Hospital Drive in Ukiah to investigate a possible domestic violence incident. There they found 31-year-old Justin Michels waiting outside, and learned that the alleged incident had taken place that morning on the 1300 block of North State Street.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, around 7 AM, an argument between Michels and his partner, who is pregnant, escalated to Michels allegedly pushing her, choking her, and otherwise physically assaulting her to the point that she was afraid for her life. She was able to escape shortly after the assault, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies later met with her and noted that she had visible injuries consistent with what was reported. Michels was ultimately arrested on suspicion of domestic violence assault and booked on $35,000 bail.

In the second incident, on the evening of March 10, 25-year-old David Brown was taken into custody after allegedly shoving his partner to the ground during a drunken argument in front of a business on North State Street.

The victim reportedly suffered injuries to her left hand and elbow after hitting the ground, the Sheriff’s Office said. Brown was ultimately arrested and booked on suspicion of domestic violence battery, with bail set at $25,000.

In the third incident, on the morning or March 11, deputies were sent out to investigate a possible domestic violence incident on the 1200 block of Eunice Court. The victim told deputies that her child’s father — identified as 37-year-old Benjamin Blomgren — had physically assaulted her at around 2 AM that morning, reportedly inflicting visible injuries to her right wrist and left forearm, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Blomgren was located nearby and booked on suspicion of domestic violence battery, with bail set at $25,000.
