Re-Arrested DUI Suspect Charged for Vehicular Manslaughter

OAKLAND — A woman arrested three times for DUIs now faces charges including vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. The suspect’s most recent arrest is for a hit and run fatality that occurred last year in East Oakland.

The victim Michelle Marbley, 54 of Oakland, was killed October 29, when her scooter was struck on Foothill Boulevard. The driver responsible apparently drove left of the center lane into incoming traffic and hit Marbley.

Kenya Morris, a 26-year-old resident of Vallejo, was arrested the following day. However, Morris was released from custody, pending further investigation of the crash and victim’s death.

Morris had evidently fled from the scene and returned briefly before she left a second time. The crash was recorded by a witness on a cell phone, who turned over this evidence to the police.

Morris was implicated because she is the registered owner of the vehicle involved. She was booked October 30 on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, hit and run, and DUI alcohol/drugs. Apparently, she was driving without a license at the time.

After being released from custody, Morris was charged in December with vehicular manslaughter, and Oakland police obtained a warrant to arrest her again.

Morris was taken into custody by Oakland PD on March 4 at her residence in Vallejo. She was booked back into Santa Rita Jail. She remains in custody scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on March 11.

Incidentally, Morris was also arrested last July by Hayward police in another DUI incident. Fortunately, no one was killed—that time.
