A Sacramento County woman has been arrested in connection to the death of her friend’s child, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

On February 13, deputies responded to assist in a medical call involving an unresponsive 4-year-old girl on the 3900 block of 42nd Avenue in South Sacramento. The girl was soon pronounced dead at an area medical center.

Deputies and child abuse detectives later responded to the address to speak with 28-year-old La Kreesha Frederick, a friend of the child’s mother, who had legal custody of the child and had been looking after her since October of last year, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Following extensive investigation, authorities issued a warrant for Frederick’s arrest in connection to the child’s death.

Frederick was arrested on Thursday, February 24, on suspicion of murder and assault resulting in the death of a child, and remains in custody on $1 million bail.
