Man Arrested on Suspicion of Committing 2 Freeway Shootings in One Day

CASTRO VALLEY — An unemployed 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of committing two freeway shootings in one day. Two victims were transported to hospitals for treatment of their gunshot wounds.

Both shootings occurred February 27. The first shooting happened 11:15 a.m., on westbound Interstate 205 near Lathrop. The second shooting occurred at 11:44 a.m. on westbound Interstate 580 in Livermore, west of Livermore Avenue.

California Highway Patrol officers, responding to the shooting on I-580, located a male victim ina pick-up truck. He sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The suspect had fled the scene, but CHP officers located him on westbound I-580 near Strobridge Avenue in Castro Valley. Armando L. Perez, 24 of Hayward, was arrested at 11:56a.m. Perez remains behind bars at Santa Rita Jail ineligible for release on bond.

Further Investigation implicated Perez in the shooting on I-205 near Lathrop. The victim in thisshooting suffered critical gunshot injuries.

For the I-580 shooting, Perez faces charges for attempted murder, assault with a firearm, andshooting at a vehicle. Additional charges are anticipated concerning the shooting on I-205.

Last year, Perez was arrested by Hayward police and charged with battery, in a misdemeanor case that is still pending.
