Probation Search Leads to Arrest for Weapons Violation

“On January 25th, 2022, at about 9:00 AM, Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies and Calaveras County Probation officers conducted a probation search at a residence located in the 400 block of Main Street, West Point. The purpose of the search was to ensure that Nicholas Harley Caspary, age 32, from West Point, CA, was complying with the terms and conditions of his probation.

Upon arrival, Suspect Nicholas Caspary fled the residence as deputies secured the scene. Deputies and probation officers searched the area however, they did not locate Caspary. Deputies focused their efforts on searching the residence. During the search of the residence, deputies and probation officers found 21 firearms (rifles, shotguns, and handguns), over 2,000 rounds of ammunition in various calibers, and illegal firearms accessories.

During the investigation, it was discovered that a female, identified as Tonya Elaine Rogers (age 43 of West Point) was living in the residence and prohibited from possessing firearms. Suspect Rogers was arrested and transported to the Calaveras County Jail.

Suspect Rogers was charged with 29800(A)(1) PC prohibited person in possession of firearms (Felony), 30305 (A)(1) PC prohibited person in possession of ammunition (Felony) and 148 (A)(1) PC obstruct a peace officer in the performance of duties (misdemeanor). Tonya Rogers is being held with a bail of $35,000.

Detectives were contacted and responded to the residence to assist with additional searching of the residence, processing evidence and furthering the investigation.
