During the initial investigation, it was determined the victim was shot in the parking lot and suspects fled prior to police arrival. Multiple witnesses were able to provide officers with descriptions of possible involved persons. In addition to witness statements, the parking lot was processed for evidence and we worked collaboratively with Hillsdale Shopping Center to obtain security footage.
Working quickly, our Detectives were able to identify multiple persons related to this incident. Their investigation led to the arrest of four minors today. Search warrants were authored and SMPD detectives/officers, with the assistance of Belmont PD and the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force (NTF) and Gang Intelligence Unit (GIU), were able execute the warrants and located evidence linking all four to this incident. The juveniles were booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Hall on various charges.
Our investigation continues as we look into the motive, for possible additional suspects, and any associated crimes. We will release pertinent information when it becomes available.
If you were at Hillsdale Mall on January 19, 2022 between 2:30pm to 5:30pm and feel you have information that could be useful to our investigation, please contact San Mateo Police Detective Sergeant Paul Pak at (650)522-7660 or ppak@cityofsanmateo.org.
