Fresno police open murder investigation after woman fatally shot

Fresno police have opened an investigation into the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Mayra Barajas.

Banks was found unresponsive by a patrol officer shortly after 2 AM on Saturday, January 8, at the intersection of Olive and Marks Avenues. She had suffered a gunshot wound to her upper body and was later pronounced dead at hospital, police said.

The investigation is active. Detectives are working to determine why Barajas had been in the area, and are asking that anyone with information relevant to the incident contact the Fresno Police Department.
