1/13/2022 Homicide Arrests: E. Bernal Drive and Maryal Drive

“On August 31, 2021 a double homicide occurred near the intersection of E. Bernal Dr. and Maryal Dr. in the City of Salinas. Detectives continued to diligently work the case. Through the course of the investigation detectives developed information and identified at least two of the involved suspects. The first suspect was arrested on September 03, 2021. He was identified as David Jimenez (20) from Salinas. The second suspect was arrested on January 06, 2022. He was identified as Yohani Mendez (18) from Salinas.
David Jimenez was booked into the Monterey County Jail on homicide charges and gang enhancements.
Yohani Mendez was booked into the Monterey County Jail on homicide charges, gang enhancements and conspiracy.

Update: 9/2/2021-Family notifications have been made and Salinas PD has identified the two victims as Michael David Ramos (33) Salinas resident and Amanda Nicole Ferrell (30) city of Gonzales resident.

Yesterday 8/31/2021 at 12:35 pm, Salinas Police Officers responded to a report of a victim of a shooting near the intersection of E. Bernal Dr. and Maryal Dr. On arrival they located an adult male victim 33 years of age and an adult female victim 30 years of age suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers and Salinas Fire Personnel attempted life saving measures on the male victim however he succumbed to his injuries.
The female victim was transported to a local hospital however she also died as a result of her injuries. The identities of both victims are being withheld at this time pending notification of family members. Witnesses described an unknown type vehicle driving eastbound on E. Bernal after the shooting however it is unknown at this point if the vehicle was involved in the incident.”
