A Monterey County man was arrested and another one cited following a recent alleged hit-and-run, according to police.

Just before 2 AM on January 2, officers responded to a reported hit-and-run in the area of West Laurel Drive and Monroe Street in Salinas. A woman at the scene told officers that her car had been side-swiped by a silver Toyota, and that not only had the driver refused to provide his information, but that another passenger in the car had brandished a gun. The victim said the driver then sped away.

While searching the area for the Toyota, officers reportedly came across a black Infiniti that had been seen several times in the area since the alleged hit-and-run was reported, police said. Officers soon discovered that three of the six occupants in the Infiniti had been in the Toyota when the collision occurred.

Officers were soon able to identify the driver of the Toyota as 23-year-old Mikey Saavedra. Another occupant, identified as 19-year-old Adrian Rizo Martinez, reportedly had a personally manufactured Polymer 80 firearm hidden in his waistband, police said.

Martinez was ultimately arrested and booked on weapons charges, while Saavedra was cited and released for hit-and-run, police said.
