“A close call for deputies on January 5th, after they conducted a traffic stop along the 11,000 block of Dry Creek Road, in Auburn.

The driver exited the vehicle almost immediately and brandished a knife towards deputies, before taking off on foot.

Deputies verbally ordered him to stop running and to drop the knife, but he ignored their commands and continued to run off into a nearby field.

The suspect fell as he was running, at which time he pulled out a second knife and told deputies, “You are going to have to kill me.”

After a 20-minute standoff, and excellent de-escalation tactics, the suspect agreed to drop the two knives and was taken into custody without further resistance.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Joshua Fergozo Salazar, a transient from Modesto. Salazar was arrested for resisting a peace officer and brandishing a deadly weapon.”
