“On Friday, December 24, 2021, at 1:34 PM, SHASCOM dispatch center received a burglary alarm activation at the Baptist Church in Millville. While deputies were responding to the church, a fire alarm activation was activated from inside the church as well.

When deputies arrived at the church, they found a set of glass double doors leading into the church had been pried open and were ajar. Deputies looked through the glass doors and saw a female inside the church. She saw the deputies and ran south through the interior of the church and out of sight.

Deputies with the assistance of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and an officer from CalFire surrounded the building. Announcements were made for the person to come out, but to no avail.

Deputies began searching the interior of the church utilizing Sheriff’s Office K9 Fritz. The church was saturated in a white dust which was later discovered to be from one of the church’s fire extinguishers. A female was located sitting inside the chapel portion of the church. She was given commands to get down on her stomach and place her hands out to her sides. The
female refused to heed commands.

K9 Fritz was deployed and apprehended the female. The female was later transported to a local hospital for clearance as per standard procedure. The female was identified as Shayla Adkins (24 years old) and eventually booked into the Shasta County Jail for two counts of 148 PC obstructing and delaying officers, 148.4 PC false fire alarm and 459 PC burglary.”
