“A couple has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit and run after an elderly man was struck dead while walking on Pacific Coast Highway.

The 66-year-old man was found lying in the roadway of Pacific Coast Highway, near 24th Street in Huntington Beach, just after 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 19th.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be seen.

A woman, identified as 39-year-old Kimberly Burch of Surfside, came up to officers as the traffic investigation was in progress, saying that she was the driver of the vehicle that hit the man.

“After being placed under arrest, it was discovered that her husband, 37-year-old Daniel Burch of Surfside, was driving the [vehicle] and fled the scene after hitting the 66-year old male,” according to the Huntington Beach Police Department press release.  “Both were taken into custody. It is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.”

Early investigation suggests that the suspect vehicle, a 2017 gray Jeep Grand Cherokee, was going southbound when the man was struck.  Anyone with additional information on this case is asked to call HBPD Traffic Investigator D. Demetre at (714) 536-5670, or Investigator V. Rattanchandani at (714) 536-5231.”
