Felony Embezzlement Charges – College Dean Allegedly Padded the Bills to the School

EAST LOS ANGELES – Investigators at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Fraud and Cyber Crimes Division, have been delving into a case involving an East Los Angeles College Dean.

Paul DeLaCerda (dob 11/19/74) has been under investigation for multiple questionable billing practices. As a result, the Los Angeles County District Attorney recently announced that the Dean was charged in case BA501485 with one felony count each of misappropriation of government funds and embezzlement of government funds.

Dean DeLaCerda, according to District Attorney George Gascón, “has been charged with overbilling his employer for trips he took.” The DA added, ““My office will continue to strive to root out public corruption
in order to make government clean.”

Facts of the case include padded bills for several hotel stays – roughly $1,575 – between March 2017 and 2019. On top of that, allegations include forged documents submitted for reimbursement.

LASD’s Fraud and Cyber Crimes’ case remains under investigation. At this time, the Dean is expected to be arraigned on January 7th in Foltz Criminal Justice Center, Department 30.
