A Shasta County man was arrested recently after allegedly brandishing a knife and then trying to hide from police in a home that wasn’t his, according to Redding PD.

On the morning of December 1, officers responded to the area of Shasta View and Belladonna Street to investigate reports of a man brandishing a knife. A man, later identified as 31-year-old Christopher Tavarez of Redding, had reportedly made threats at knifepoint, including a threat to burn someone’s house down, police said.

Responding officers tried to contact Tavarez, but he fled into a house that wasn’t his.

Following a lengthy standoff in which officers and crisis negotiators repeatedly tried to diffuse the situation peacefully, Tavarez ultimately had to be subdued with a taser and taken into custody, police said..

He was later booked on suspicion of false imprisonment, criminal threats, exhibiting a knife in a threatening manner, and resisting arrest.
