Deputies Reportedly Seize 50 Pounds of Meth, 5 Pounds of Fentanyl During Traffic Stop on Interstate 5 near Dog Creek Road

SHASTA COUNTY, CA — “On Friday, August 14, 2026, at approximately 7:30 AM, a vehicle travelling northbound on Interstate 5 near Dog Creek Road was stopped for a traffic violation by California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 26-year-old Rion Hendrix Scovil, of Lodi, CA.

During the traffic stop, a large amount of narcotics was located. Approximately 50 pounds of methamphetamine, 5 pounds of fentanyl, and 2 pounds of cocaine was found. After discovering the suspected narcotics, the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force (SINTF) was contacted and responded to assume the investigation.

SINTF detectives arrested Scovil and booked him into the Shasta County Jail on charges of 11378 HS Possess Controlled Substance For Sale, 11379(a) HS Transport/Etc. Controlled Substance, 11351 HS Possess/Purchase For Sale Narcotic/Controlled Substance, and 11352(a) HS Transport/Sell Narcotic/Controlled Substance

Scovil’s bail is set at $2,000,000.”
