“GUILTY VERDICT- District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar announced a jury found defendant Luis Vivero guilty of attempted murder, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon.

On December 23, 2018, the defendant and four juveniles entered a market in South Stockton armed with a firearm. The store clerk was assaulted and the register was broken into and emptied. The store clerk then attempted to hide near the ice cream freezer only to find two customers hiding in the same location. As the group of teenagers and Vivero were leaving, Vivero fired three shots at the clerk and customers. During the investigation, witnesses were able to identify the defendant and juveniles to Stockton Police Department.

“It is imperative we get illegal guns out of the hands of those who intend to commit harm,” said District Attorney Tori Verber Salazar. “We are grateful to the jury for their findings and Victim/Witness advocate for assisting the victims in this case as they recover from their respective traumas.

The San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office would like to recognize Stockton Police Department for their investigative integrity and the Violent Enterprise Crime Unit (VCEU) Deputy District Attorney for their skillful prosecution of the case. The defendant returns before the courts for sentencing on December 13, 2021. To learn more about the SJCDA’s Office and prosecution units, visit SJGov.org/DA#SJCDA #GuiltyVerdict”
