“On Sunday, February 25th, shortly after 11:00 PM, one of our Deputies, while traveling Eastbound on Hwy 88 near the Taco Bell located at 4327 E HWY 88, struck a pedestrian. Our deputy immediately called for medics and began life-saving measures. Medics arrived on scene and took over the life-saving measures, but unfortunately, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries. Due to the incident, Hwy 88 was closed to traffic in both directions (and has since been reopened) and an investigation was initiated.

Any time our deputies are involved in a critical incident such as this, a protocol is invoked, and the incident is thoroughly investigated. During the investigation, at approximately 1:30 AM, an uninvolved vehicle drove through our barricade, putting our deputies and other agencies’ personnel’s lives in danger. That vehicle was identified, and the driver was arrested by the California Highway Patrol. CHP is conducting its own investigation regarding that incident.”
