“San Mateo, CA – On September 24, 2021 at approximately 8:39 p.m., an unknown suspect entered the Shell Gas station, located at 2901 S. Norfolk in San Mateo, CA, and displayed a handgun before demanding money from the clerk.  The clerk gave the suspect money from the cash register before the suspect fled the scene.

SMPD launched an investigation.  After obtaining video surveillance and working diligently, SMPD officers developed investigative leads.  SMPD detectives worked collaboratively with other local law enforcement agencies and learned the suspects wanted for the armed robbery at the gas station were responsible for eight known armed robberies in multiple counties.

On Thursday October 21, 2021, the North Central Regional S.W.A.T. Team, San Mateo Police Department, and other regional law enforcement agencies were present in Alameda, San Mateo, and Santa Clara counties to simultaneously serve three search and arrest warrants authored as a result of this investigation.  The suspects were arrested without incident.  Additionally, an AR-15 and two handguns were located and confiscated as evidence.

Remember, if “You see something, say something.” We’re encouraging our community to utilize security cameras.  They are especially helpful identifying suspicious activity in neighborhoods when cameras are street facing. Our officers regularly canvass for surveillance and you can help by notifying SMPD where cameras are located in your neighborhood at http://www.cityofsanmateo.org/Nest.
