Two hours after midnight on the morning of September 14 th , a 911 Emergency call was received by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Dispatch reporting that a stabbing victim had been transported to Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital.

According to SBSD Public Information Officer Raquel Zick, deputies arrived at the hospital and made contact with the alleged victim. At that point, doctors attending the victim’s wounds indicated that he had been “stabbed several times” and had managed to ride his bicycle through the dark city streets of Goleta to the hospital entrance where he collapsed “with serious injuries.”

An investigation into the incident immediately ensued and enabled deputies to soon thereafter identify 32-year-old Goleta resident Juan Diaz-Chevez as the suspect in the violent attack.

Obviously familiar with both Diaz-Chevez and the environs in which he might be located, it took deputies less than two hours to make contact with him at “approximately 4:42 a.m. as he lurked about in the commercial district of Old Town Goleta.

Diaz-Chevez was interviewed briefly and then taken into custody at the scene. He was then transported to Santa Barbara County Jail, where he was booked on a felony charge of attempted murder, with his bail set at $1,000,000.
