Los Banos PD’s gang unit has arrested two individuals after reportedly finding two handguns during an attempted traffic stop.

On the night of August 12, officers attempted to pull over 18-year-old Josue Romero Castro after he allegedly ran a stop sign in the area of Curlew Way and Heron Drive.

Though Castro initially tried to speed away, police say he stopped abruptly on Egret Lane, at which point he and a passenger, later identified as 20-year-old Oscar Pineda, fled the vehicle on foot. Pineda was also seen discarding a loaded gun as he ran, police said.

Once additional officers arrived in the area, Castro and Pineda were in custody within minutes. Police say a second firearm was also discovered during a search of the vehicle.

Both were arrested on suspicion of evading a police officer. Castro is additionally accused of driving without a license, and Pineda faces multiple charges of weapons violations.
