RESEDA – When a beloved and highly-involved community leader was found dead on August 4th, shock resonated throughout SoCal. An investigation was immediately launched when Michelle Annette Avan appeared to have been murdered in her home.
Los Angeles Police Department, West Valley Bureau reported that Avan (48) was discovered dead one day after her murder. The horrific facts included her son finding her body after she hadn’t been able to be reached for a scheduled meeting.
Evidence leads were found to charge Anthony Duwayne Turner (dob 8/22/68) of Westchester with one felony count each of murder and first-degree residential burglary. The former boyfriend is charged with entering the victim’s home on August 3rd, fatally beating her to death, then leaving the residence on August 4th.
The domestic-violence killing case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, West Valley Bureau. The previously-scheduled arraignment for case LA095328 was on the docket to take place in Department 100 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch.
“Ms. Avan was a leader in our community and this senseless act of violence has resulted in a significant loss to us all,” said District Attorney George Gascón.
