Angry Driver Arrested for Premeditated Attempted Murder

OAKLAND — A man faces state prison if he is convicted of intentionally striking another man with his car. The suspect was arrested for premeditated attempted murder and other charges.

Daniel Ethan Won, 19 of Oakland, is accused of using his vehicle as a weapon. The incident which was recorded on video occurred in the tony Montclair district of Oakland. It shows the driver making a few failed attempts to strike the victim, before hitting him.

The altercation happened between two drivers who exchanged heated words. This purportedly included the suspect threatening to kill the other driver.

Apparently, the suspect was driving too fast and asked to drive slower through the neighborhood. In response, the suspect became extremely angry.

The situation escalated to the point where the suspect allegedly drove towards a group of persons. After one victim was struck by the side of the car, the suspect drove away from the scene.

The victim Joseph Lax of Pleasanton was knocked down to the ground, but fortunately he suffered no injuries. The video also shows the suspect narrowly missing two other persons.

Won was later located at a residence on the 600 block of Trestle Glen Road. He was arrested on a warrant August 10 at 6:50 p.m. He was transported to Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.

For his actions, Won faces a charge for willful, deliberate premeditated attempted murder. His second charge is assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury. His third charge is causing great bodily injury.
