On July 29, 2021, at about 12:31 P.M., the Bakersfield Police Department received multiple reports of a male subject armed with a handgun who was firing into a residence in the 900 block of Lost Trail Way.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the suspect had fled into a neighboring residence. Officers conducted a surrender call-out and the suspect, identified as Salvador Hernandez (47) of Bakersfield, was taken into custody with no incident. The firearm used in the offense was recovered.
The investigation revealed that Hernandez responded to a neighbor’s residence, knocked on the door and then fired a handgun multiple times into the residence. The victim’s residence was occupied by multiple people when the shooting occurred; however, no one was struck by the gunfire.
The shooting prompted several other neighbors to exit their residences and Hernandez pointed the firearm at them before fleeing back into his residence and subsequently being taken into custody.
There appears to be no history between the victims and Hernandez, and at this time the attack appears to be unprovoked. Hernandez has been arrested for multiple counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, shooting into an inhabited dwelling and brandishing a firearm.
