Cops Bust Up Illegal Marijuana Grow in Lamont

LAMONT — An investigation into a small marijuana growing operation in southeast Kern County ends with one man behind bars.

Antonio Cruz, 39, was booked into the Kern County Jail for illegal cultivation of marijuana and possession of marijuana for sale. According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, from the Kern Narcotics Enforcement Team (KNET) went to Cruz’s home in the 10900 block of Santa Clara Street in Lamont on Oct. 15, to investigate numerous reports regarding possible narcotics activity allegedly taking place at the home.

Sheriff’s investigators said that they were able to obtain a search warrant for the home after they discovered evidence of illegal marijuana cultivation during their investigation.

During their search, detectives located approximately 15 pounds of processed marijuana packaged for sale, marijuana plants, scale, a shotgun, numerous marijuana seeds and over $80,000 dollars in U.S. currency.
