“On July 11, 2021, at approximately 3:50 am, the Sacramento CHP Communication Center put out a call of multiple witnesses reporting a wrong-way driver on SR-99 at Central Galt.

The wrong-way vehicle was described as a white Honda Civic that was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes and nearly colliding head-on with another vehicle.

South Sacramento Area unit, 112-108, (Officer Frazer and Officer Weikert) rushed to the area and were able to stop southbound traffic just south of Dillard Road as the wrong-way driver approached their location. Officer Frazer and Weikert activated the Code-3 lights and successfully stopped the wrong-way vehicle all while avoiding a head-on collision with the Honda.

The driver, Eduardo Bautista, 22 years old out of Stockton, was detained and moved off the freeway for a DUI evaluation. Bautista was arrested for suspicion of Driving Under the Influence and was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail.

This incident could have ended tragically. Thankfully, Officer Frazer and Weikert were able to stop this wrong-way driver before a serious collision could occur.

The California Highway Patrol will continue to arrest impaired drivers and save innocent lives as long as individuals continue to make the poor decision to get behind the wheel of a vehicle while drunk or high on drugs.

Great job Officer Frazer and Officer Weikert on providing the highest levels of safety, service, and security to the residents of California.”
